Meatballs in Tomato Sauce

When I was a kid I was sent to school with the best lunches. My favourite being a soft panino stuffed with tomato sauce and meatballs. No PB&J for me. This tomato sauce and meatball recipe might be stereotypical but is still inarguably the very best Italian cooking has to offer. Enjoy with pasta - or not!

Serves four.

Step 1 |Mix all ingredients in large bowl until evenly incorporated.

Step 2 | By heaping tablespoons at a time, form into balls. Continue until mixture is finished.

Step 3 | Bake metballs in a roasting pan at 350° for 30 minutes. They may not necessarily cook through, but that's okay! We're adding them to the sauce where they will continue to cook.

Notes: | You can choose to roast one link of Italian sausage with the meatballs which you can then add to your sauce for more flavour.

This simple tomato sauce can be served as is with pasta, but consider adding a link of Italian sausage to add more flavour! See notes above.

Serves four.

Step 1 | In a large sauce pot, heat olive oil on medium and add your onion and hot pepper flakes (is using). Simmer for 2 minutes.

Step 2 | Add meatballs and italian sausage (if using), salt, sugar, and dried herbs. Cook for 1 hour on low-simmer. Stir occasionally.

Serve over your favourite pasta. Enjoy!
